We are a compliance and risk practice that builds its own software. That combination is the job, and it is not a common one.
What the work actually is
Three things, and most people here touch all of them. Advising regulated businesses on what their obligations are and which controls those obligations need. Assessing where a business stands against them, with an instrument rather than an opinion. And building the software that does the assessing.
The through line is that we operate what we build. A recommendation we make is one we have had to live with, and a tool we ship is one we use on real engagements. That is the reason the work is interesting and the reason it is demanding.
Who does well here
People who have had to answer for a decision. Not only advised on one. There is a difference between knowing what a rule says and having been the person who had to satisfy a regulator that you had followed it, and the second is what we are usually short of.
People who write clearly. Most of what we produce is a written judgement someone else will rely on. If it cannot be read, it cannot be relied on.
People who check. Compliance work fails quietly. The habit of verifying a thing you already believe is the single most useful one on this team.
Credentials matter less than any of that. We care where you have worked and what you had to get right there.
